Moderate Deviations for Martingales with Bounded Jumps

We prove that the Moderate Deviation Principle (MDP) holds for the trajectory of a locally square integrable martingale with bounded jumps as soon as its quadratic covariation, properly scaled, converges in probability at an exponential rate. A consequence of this MDP is the tightness of the method of bounded martingale differences in the regime of moderate deviations.

Finite Time Ruin Probabilities and Martingales

In this paper we give an introduction to collective risk theory in its simplest form. Our aims are to indicate how some basic facts may be obtained by martingale methods and to point out some open problems

A Large Deviation Principle for Martingales over Brownian Filtration

In this article we establish a large deviation principle for the family {ν ε : ε ∈ (0, 1)} of distributions of the scaled stochastic processes {P − log √ ε Z t } t≤1 , where (Z t) t∈[0,1] is a square-integrable martingale over Brownian filtration and (P t) t≥0 is the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck semigroup. The rate function is identified as well in terms of the Wiener-Itô chaos decomposition of the termi...

A large-deviation inequality for vector-valued martingales

Let X = (X0, . . . , Xn) be a discrete-time martingale taking values in any real Euclidean space such that X0 = 0 and for all n, ‖Xn − Xn−1‖ ≤ 1. We prove the large deviation bound Pr [‖Xn‖ ≥ a] < 2e1−(a−1) 2/2n. This upper bound is within a constant factor, e2, of the AzumaHoeffding Inequality for real-valued martingales. This improves an earlier result of O. Kallenberg and R. Sztencel (1992)....

Log-level Comparison for Small Deviation Probabilities

Log-level comparisons of the small deviation probabilities are studied in three different but related settings: Gaussian processes under the L2 norm, multiple sums motivated by tensor product of Gaussian processes, and various integrated fractional Brownian motions under the sup-norm. ∗Department of Mathematics, University of Idaho, Moscow, ID 83844-1103, [email protected].
